Excessive Technology Usage

Teachers text and post on Facebook excessively.  Many teachers text and post to Facebook during their teaching time.  This distracts the students and takes valuable teaching time away from the students.

Students excessively text, play video games, talk on the phone and watch television.  They do not know how to socialize with others and are losing their ability to emphathize.  Excessive use of technology is inhibiting their creativeness, their ability to relate to others, deplinished their attention span and it is keeping them from enjoying the important things in life.

In relation to technoloy, please describe what life is like for you after a typical school day?

I tend to go to school early and stay very late.  I leave school around 6:30 or 7:00, sometimes later.  I drive home and sometimes I cook something or heat up food in the microwave.
I usually turn on the the television and watch or listen to it; until I go to bed.  If I am taking a class, I am working on the computer at home.
On the weekends, I write lesson plans, look for educational websites and sometimes make power point presentations for school.

Technologies Essential in My Life

Essentials:  air condition, running water, stove/microwave, car, electricity, hot water heater, heat, phone (emergencies)

Luxuries:  television, computer, blow dryer

Educational Technology Essentials:  computers, pencil sharpener, copy machine, telephone

The Most Important Invention in Technology

I am a history person, so I feel the most important technological invention was the printing press.  It allowed books; especially the Bible, to be printed in large quantities and cheaper.  This opened the door to educating the masses and the widespread of Christianity.

Learning Style

I am a visual, auditory & kinesthetic learner.  I love to listen to stories about life experiences.  I have found that the true-life experience stories have taught me more than the textbooks and lectures.
I do not like online classes, because I miss the interaction in the classroom.  I like working in groups, but I do not like group projects.
I am an overly honest person and I like oral participation.  I am opinionated, but I listen to other opinions.  I will replay a persons words/opinion later and reflect on the information and I am willing to change my opinion.
If I do not understand something, I will ask if the teacher is approachable.  I have recently had a professor who refuses to answer students' questions.  Unfortunately, I do not feel that I can approach that person, so my questions have gone unanswered.
